Jonathan Moyo in foul-mouthed rant to securocrats and information ministry

  • by TZN Correspondent Controversial Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo has ruffled feathers with the feared securocrats and his fellow minister of information Chris Mushowe over the covering of military issues in the media. Of late the Zanu PF government has been on a crusade to silence private media journalists on the covering of issues related to the military.Patrick-Zhuwawo-and-Jonathan-Moyo-enjoying-themselves-during-the-Zanu-Pf-Congress-yesterday-Pic-Shepherd-Tozvireva Mushowe issued a stern warning to the private media and told them to leave the military alone. The permanent secretary in the information ministry George Charamba, who doubles up as president Robert Mugabe’ spokesperson also threatened to arrest the Zimbabwe Independent investigative reporter Elias Mambo over the covering of military issues. However only a week after the threat Moyo posted on his twitter handle that”It is wrong to say some sectors are outside media coverage. Nothing is above the constitution. It’s the law, stupid.” Moyo’s comments will set tongues waging in the Zanu PF government which is tearing apart following serious succession wars as political bigwigs strategically position themselves to replace aging president Robert Mugabe. In December Mugabe took a swipe at the service chiefs accusing them of dabbling in the political affairs of the country. Zimbabwe Defense Forces commander Constantine Chiwenga is a strong vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa ally and is backing “Ngwena” to take over from Mugabe. Mnangagwa is locked in a bitter succession wrangle with a group of young Turks known as G40, of which Moyo is said to be one of its proponents. Sources say Mnangagwa who has been attacked left , right and centre, by Moyo on the social media, is enjoying support of the securocrats. “Moyo is fighting Ngwena from all fronts and now he wants his securocrats support base to be attacked by the media,” the source said. “He has for long been given a long rope after his demotion as information minister. This time Mugabe may fire him for his careless comments on the securocrats.”
