KWEKWE-BASED human rights defender and democracy activist, Nkosilathi Emmanuel Moyo, has reportedly sent prison garb to President Robert Mugabe as a birthday present ahead of the Zanu PF leader’s 92nd birthday celebrations to be held in Masvingo next month.
The present comprises prison uniform, a prison jersey, white tennis shoes, a pair of handcuffs and a Mugabe portrait inscribed “Wanted: RG Mugabe for Crimes Against Humanity”.
The parcel also contains a video advocating for Mugabe to be taken to the International Criminal Court at The Hague, in Netherlands, to answer to crimes against humanity and alleged human rights atrocities.
Moyo (28), the director of the Zimbabwe Organisation for Youth in Politics (ZOYP), said thousands of innocent civilians had lost their lives at the hands of Mugabe’s administration.
“Ever since President Mugabe got into power in 1980 to date, thousands of innocent civilians lost their lives because of his brutality, oppression and ruthless misrule,” he said.
“He must be brought to justice one day and answer for his crimes against humanity and this will send a strong message to our future presidents that they must respect human rights and the rule of law.”
The parcel, which was sent on Wednesday through DHL Kwekwe (Tracking Number 2220952661) was expected to be delivered at the President’s Munhumutapa Office in Harare yesterday.
Moyo said he sent the present early because he knows that his “gift to the President will pass through a lot of security checks” before reaching him.
Last year, Moyo penned a scathing book tracing First Lady Grace Mugabe’s rise to power and its implications to the ruling Zanu PF party.
He also wrote books daring Mugabe, which he is distributing for free on his website www.nkosilathiemmanuelmoyo.org.
Some of his books are Zimbabwe: A Revolution Waiting To Happen (2013), Robert Mugabe from Freedom Fighter To The People’s Enemy (2014), The Rise Of Grace Mugabe – The Fall of Zanu PF (2015) and his latest Everything is Possible Without Zanu PF (2016).
“I am doing all this in pursuit of a better Zimbabwe, where human rights, democracy and the rule of law are respected, a land free from dictatorship and authoritarianism,” he said.
Mugabe, who turns 92 on February 21, has a big bash planned for him by his Zanu PF party and the celebrations to be held in the drought-stricken Masvingo province are estimated to cost over
$800 000.
