Assassin Tsvangirai: MDC-T to sue VP Mphoko over Joshua Nkomo shooting claims

THE opposition MDC-T party has hit out at vice president Phelekezela Mphoko and threatened to sue him over allegations he made on national TV at the weekend.

Mphoko alleged that MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai was involved in an assassination attempt on the late vice president Joshua Nkomo, adding that the opposition leader was also involved in the 1980s Gukurahundi atrocities.

“Mphoko will soon be hearing from President Tsvangirai’s lawyers about his false and defamatory allegations,” said MDC-T presidential spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka in a statement.

“He surely owes the nation an elaborate substantiation of his fanciful allegations that do not befit the high office he holds. He will surely have his day in court.”

Tamborinyoka said the Gukurahundi massacres were committed by President Robert Mugabe whom he accused of butchering and maiming more than 20,000 innocent civilians.

“Mphoko must resist the temptation to parade himself in front of television cameras if he knows he has smoked something illegal, toxic and dangerous as he appeared to have done yesterday (Saturday),” said Tamborinyoka.

“Here is a whole VP with neither shame nor compunction, grossly maligning and besmirching an innocent citizen and making a sick out of a national tragedy on national television.”

Tamborinyoka warned Mphoko against making himself a national spectacle, humiliating both his party and the government by smearing “innocent citizens with blood in a desperate bid to make a murderer out of them”.

He added that the move by VP Mphoko was a “desperate and miserable attempt at spin by a semi-literate G40 kingpin who was clearly out of his depth”.-NewZimbabwe
