Bhasikiti to stand as an independent candidate in Mwenezi East

FORMER Masvingo Provincial Affairs minister Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, who was fired from Zanu PF last week, says he is ready to contest as an independent candidate in the by-elections in his constituency. Kudakwashe-Bhasikiti

Bhasikiti told a provincial newsletter Tell Zimbabwe on Wednesday that his dismissal from the party was unconstitutional, adding that he learnt of his fate through the media.

He reportedly vowed to contest as an independent candidate to reclaim his Mwenezi East Constituency.

“The real Zanu PF we know does not operate like this; we were supposed to be served with dismissal letters but surprisingly we learnt about it through the media.

This is just drama and very soon it will come to an end. I will contest as an independent if they try to stop me from Parliament,” Bhasikiti told the newsletter.

Although the date for the by-elections has yet to be announced, the law says the seat automatically becomes vacant once the incumbent MP is removed from the position.

Bhasikiti was fired together with Dzikamai Mavhaire and retired Major Claudius Makova from Masvingo province on allegations of working with ousted VP Joice Mujuru to topple President Mugabe.

The former minister also said he will not hesitate to join a new political party ‘Zanu People First’ if it was to be formerly launched.

“People have been talking about a new political party to be named Zanu People First……once the party has been formed I will join.

“I am happy the name has Zanu in it which shows that it is formed by real Zanu PF members and not those without war credentials,” he said.

He also attacked Josiah Hungwe, the minister of state for psychomotor activities in education, as a sell out without war credentials.

“I know that people like Josiah Hungwe knew that they were overshadowed by (Dzikamai) Mavhaire and me in the province and they sought for our dismissal so that they get noticed.

Hungwe has no war credentials and was a sell out during the war,” said Bhasikiti.
