Bonne boost for Warriors

English League Two side Colchester United have allowed forward Macauley Bonne to join the Warriors for the upcoming back-to-back 2017 Afcon qualifiers against Swaziland.

Zimbabwe are set to first meet Swaziland on Good Friday before hosting Isihlangu on Easter Monday.

While Everton defender and England youth international Brendan Galloway is a big doubtful and Tendayi Darikwa of Championship outfit Burnley has excused himself, Warriors coach Callisto Pasuwa has received a big boost in Bonne’s availability.

During his absence, Colchester United are scheduled to play Doncaster Rovers in a league match on Good Friday and manager Kevin Keen has expressed no problem in releasing Bonne although he will miss the player.

“Zimbabwe have got a couple of big games coming up and playing for your country is a huge thing. I’d never stop anyone or influence anyone from not playing for their national team,” Keen told gazette-news.co.uk.

“It could affect the team for that week, as we’ve got two games. But I’ll never stop them and if they’ve got doubts about certain things it’ll be their choice. There may be one small thing that needs to be resolved. But I’m just happy he’s been selected for his national team -— it’s a great honour and the biggest honour — it’s a great experience.”

If selected to play by Pasuwa, Bonne will make his second appearance for the Warriors following his debut in November 2014 in an international friendly match against Morocco in which he scored.
