He said the incident happened after Paul Changadzo (56)came back home from Mutandanda Range where he was hunting with a home-made rifle.

“Upon arrival, he headed straight to the cattle kraal to milk his cow. He left the gun hanging on a pole which was near the kraal.

“The now late seven-year-old boy came together with his eight-year-old friend who grabbed the firearm.

“He shot the seven-year-old boy on the right shoulder.

“The bullet went into his ribs and came out on his left buttock. He died on the spot,” said Insp Kakohwa

Police attended the scene and recovered the firearm.

In an unrelated incident, a Trip-Trans bus inspector was run over by one of their buses and died on the spot in a tragic accident that occurred along Mutare-Masvingo Highway on Sunday.

Insp Kakohwa said the bus was being driven by Prince Muchena (47) who was Masvingo bound when the accident happened.

When he got to the 67km peg near Wengezi, he stopped to pick up passengers and the late inspector, Langton Chiombererwa (50) disembarked.

As the bus was about to take off, he tried to jump onto the moving bus, but slipped and fell under the bus.
