Harare-A Cabinet reshuffle is currently underway at Munhumutapa Building where President Robert Mugabe’s wife, Grace—who is now considered the country’s de facto president—is expected to stamp her authority by putting people of her choice in key positions.

Mugabe’s cabinet reshuffle  was timed to take place at the time Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa—one of the key centres of power in Zimbabwe politics—is on a five-day visit to China. Mnangagwa and Grace are at loggerheads on a number of issues, key among who should take which Cabinet portfolio.

Only last week Grace publicly demanded that under fire Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana be fired, only for Mnangagwa to tell Parliament the following day that Tomana is going nowhere. Mnangagwa also recently invited his former deputy Fortune Chisi—who was officially fired on allegations of being linked to former Vice President Joice Mujuru, but had infact run afoul with Grace over her land grab in the Mazowe area of which Chisi is legislator—to the Parliamentary Legal Committee.

Sources close to goings-on at Munhumutapa Building told thezimbabwenewslive.com that one of the sure casualties of the reshuffle is Jonathan Moyo, who has already reportedly cleared his drawers after being ignominiously chased by Mugabe from a scheduled Cabinet meeting a fortnight ago.

Cabinet holds its meetings on Tuesday, but today’s extra-ordinary meeting was repeatedly advertised in the State media.

Sources said that it was possible that Grace could emerge from the reshuffle with a Cabinet post of her own.

It was previously speculated that Grace and Mnangagwa were at loggerheads over who, between former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono and his former advisor Munyaradzi Kereke, should replace Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa. Grace wanted Gono, while Mnangagwa was pushing for Kereke.
