This is our first roundup of the most influential Zimbabweans on the Internet. The Zimbabwenewslive sized up contenders by looking at their national and international impact on social media and their overall ability to drive news.We applied text mining methodologies on social media and other publications to carry out our statistical analysis. Here’s who made this year’s unranked list:

1.  Strive Masiyiwa

Strive Masiyiwa is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Econet, a diversified global telecommunications group with operations and investments in over 15 countries. His business interests also include renewable energy, financial services, media and hospitality.

Masiyiwa has taken his message directly to the youth by mentoring and influencing entrepreneurs on Facebook.He started posting business insights on Facebook after his daughter encouraged him to share some advice he gave her with a larger audience.
Today, Masiyiwa has nearly three million followers on the platform and for 12 consecutive months he ranked as the most influential business leader on Facebook, according to social monitoring platform Crowdtangle.

2.  Dr Alex Magaisa


Dr Alex Magaisa, Lecturer in Law, and former chief advisor to Morgan Tsvangirai (then Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister and leader of the Movement for Democratic Change), has been speaking to a variety of international news agencies about the developing situation in Zimbabwe. He has appeared on BBC Newsnight and Al Jazeera, has spoken with CNNBBC News, and has written an extensive analysis of the situation on his blog the Big Saturday Read in a piece entitled ‘The End of an Era’.

From 2011 and 2012, Dr Magaisa was a technical advisor during the constitution-making process in Zimbabwe. From 2012 to 2013, he was, by invitation, appointed as the chief advisor to Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, the then Prime Minister of the Republic of Zimbabwe and leader of the pro-democracy movement, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). As chief of staff in the Office of the Prime Minister, he was responsible for overseeing staff and delivering support to the Prime Minister.

A well-known voice in Zimbabwean legal and political circles, Dr Magaisa has maintained a blog on constitutional and political issues in Zimbabwe and is regularly called by both domestic and international media for his opinions. He is also regularly invited to the African Commission’s High Level Dialogue events on governance.

3.  Majorie Ngwenya

Marjorie Ngwenya became President of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) at the AGM on 28 June 2017.

Marjorie , an  actuary who became the first non-British-based person to be appointed president-elect of the UK’s Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). She has served in various positions in companies such as Old Mutual, Liberty Group South Africa and Deloitte United Kingdom.

4.  Ellen Chiwenga

Ellen chiwenga is a full-time football agent who has held a FIFA and FA licence for the many years regulated by the FA as a registered intermediary and a member of association of football agents(AFA), WY scout, and SOFIA CLIENT.

5. Jonathan Moyo

Jonathan Nathaniel Moyo is a Zimbabwean politician who served in the government of Zimbabwe as Minister of Higher Education until 2017. He previously served as Minister of Information from 2000 to 2005 and again from 2013 to 2015

6. Wicknell Chivayo

Wicknell Chivayo a.k.a Sir Wicknell is a business person in Zimbabwe known mostly for making posts on social media about his riches. His source of wealth is not known but he has been reported to be linked to corrupt business activities and having close ties to politicians in Zimbabwe including formIer President Robert Mugabe‘s family.

7. Dr Brighton Chireka

Brighton  was born in Bindura, Zimbabwe in 1973. He trained at the University of Zimbabwe’s Medical School where he qualified as a Doctor in November 1997. He worked in Zimbabwe for two years before moving to the UK in 2000. He is now a General Practitioner (GP) partner at Manor Clinic in Folkestone, Kent, UK. He is also a Clinical Lead in Child Health and Maternity Services for South Kent Coast Clinical Commissioning Group which covers 31 GP practices with a population of around 200 thousand patients.

8. Morgan Tsvangirai

Morgan Richard Tsvangirai is a Zimbabwean politician who was Prime Minister of Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2013. He is President of the Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai and a key figure in the opposition to former President Robert Mugabe

9. Pastor Evan Mawarire

A Zimbabwean pastor arrested after leading an anti-Robert Mugabe campaign which went viral has been shortlisted for the 2017 Index on Censorship Freedom of Expression Awards. Pastor Evan Mawarire’s #ThisFlag protest movement won widespread support among Zimbabweans on social media last year after he called on President Mugabe’s government to address a failing economy and to respect human rights. He fled the country but returned to Harare last week where he was detained upon arrival and charged with “subverting a constitutionally elected government.”

10. Acie Lumumba

Lumumba William Gerald Mutumanje aka Acie Lumumba is a Zimbabwean politician and media personality. He is a  member of the ruling Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (ZANU PF).

11. Grace Mugabe

Grace Ntombizodwa Mugabe is the wife of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and served as the First Lady of Zimbabwe from their marriage in 1996 until his resignation in November 2017

12. Brillant Pongo

Brilliant Pongo was raised in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. He always wanted to be a writer/author with an interest to teach something impactful through his work. Pongo, became a Christian author after a heavenly encounter which transformed his views and altered his spiritual course. He has since taken up the title “God’s Author” and now writes teachings that inspire and uplift the readers to better comprehend not only the modern-day prophetic movement but also other profound spiritual issues.

13. General Constantino Chiwenga

Constantino Guveya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga is a retired Zimbabwean general officer currently serving as Vice-President of the ruling ZANU-PF party since 23 December 2017 .

In 2017 ,Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), led by  Chiwenga (pictured), began what it called “Operation Restore Legacy” and put Grace Mugabe and her husband under house arrest, commencing the process that led to Mugabe’s resignation within a matter of days.

14. Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa

Ruvheneko  is a Zimbabwean radio personality, Master of Ceremony (MC) and a youth activist known mostly for her hard hitting interviews with guests on her former radio show with ZiFM Stereo. She is also former ZiFM Stereo Programming Manager. She has interviewed both local , international business and political leaders. Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa is the daughter of politician and medical Doctor, David Parirenyatwa.

15.  Olinda Chapel 

Olinda Chapel is a Zimbabwean entrepreneur, social media personality and former wife of Zim Hip Hop rapper, Stunner.

She was born Olinda Nyaradzo Chapel on the 14th of August 1983. In an interview with media personality Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa, Olinda revealed that she had her first child when she was only 17 years of age. As of 2017, her son is 16 years old.According to the same interview Olinda was previously married for 10 years. She did not reveal the name of her husband but she said that she did not enjoy her first marriage. She came out of that marriage with a lot of anger.

On 3 April 2016 Olinda was traditionally married to controversial rapper Desmond Chideme, better known as Stunner. She was revealed as Stunner’s fiance on Valentine’s Day in 2016 with her revealing that the rapper had paid $16 000 for lobola.Olinda has two children a boy and a girl from the time before she met Stunner. According to Stunner, Olinda had two failed marriages prior to getting married to Stunner. Stunner revealed this when he made his own video hitting back at Olinda after they started having marital problems.

16. Robert MugabeRobert Gabriel Mugabe is a former Zimbabwean politician. He served as Prime Minister from 1980 to 1987 and then as President from 1987 to 2017.

17. Prophet Eubert Angel

Like him or hate him Uebert Angel attracts controversy as much as great influence and power.

 Angel is a flamboyant Zimbabwean Prophet known for preaching the gospel of prosperity as well as having the gift of prophecy. Angel rose to national prominence in 2013 with his miracles, wonders and healing. Angel is the founder of Spirit Embassy Ministries launched in 2007 in Manchester, United Kingdom. Angel was reported to have had over 50 angelic visitations, had seen the Lord 6 times and had been caught up in Paradise once.

18. Prophet Talent Madungwe

Prophet Talent Madungwe,  claims to be God’s advisor.Madungwe, a controversial prophet from Zimbabwe has not only claimed to know God’s schedule but has also revealed that he knows where and when to have meetings with The Most High.The prophet who claims to have met God about 20 times hinted about knowing when He plans to end the world, according to the roster he has.

Interestingly, Prophet Madungwe shocked people when he revealed how God checks on people’s righteousness. Wait for it – On a monthly basis, ranking them according to countries.

According to a report, it is said that the Prophet boasts of being the 4th person in God’s Holy Trinity, claiming that he has a higher ranking that all the angels of the bible.

19. Nelson Chamisa

Nelson Chamisa (born 28 February 1978[1]) is a Zimbabwean politician and member of the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe for KuwadzanaHarare. His charismatic speeches and eloquence saw him rise to become the Secretary for Information and Publicity for the opposition party Movement for Democratic Change (MDC),and former national youth chairperson for that party.

Chamisa is a former chairperson of the MDC Youth Assembly. He was elected MDC spokesman at the party Congress in June 2006. In April 2011 at the Party’s congress in Bulawayo, he was elected as the Party’s Organising secretary, a post which previously belonged to Elias Mudzuri. In Parliament, he is a member of the portfolio committees of Defence and Home Affairs, Public Accounts, Gender and Youth and Transport and Communications. Chamisa is also a member of the Local Government, Public Works & Urban Development and the African Caribbean and Pacific Parliament. He is a former secretary-general of the Zimbabwe National Students Union.

In March 2007 he was attacked at Harare International Airport as he attempted to leave the country for Belgium; he was admitted to a hospital with a broken skull. On the current situation in Zimbabwe, he said, “There is no security. There is no protection. All of us are at risk.”

20. Joseph Chinotimba

 Chinotimba is a war veteran,politician, Member of Parliament and former Harare City Council security guard who came into the limelight in the new millennium by organizing, directing and leading the famous farm invasions under the Third Chimurenga in the year 2000.

In 2017 Chinotimba was named as the country’s happiness ambassador in honour for his humorous character, which has seen him periodically dominate social media discussions.

21. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa

 Mnangagwa is a politician and the First Secretary of the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (Zanu- PF). He is the current President of Zimbabwe and was sworn in on the 24th of November 2017 as Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

He is former Vice President of Zimbabwe and was dismissed on the 5th of November 2017. He had been removed from his post as Minister of Justice and replaced by Happyton Bonyongwe a month earlier. A few days after his dismissal as Vice President, Mnangagwa, was expelled from Zanu-PF Party only to be reinstated by the Central Committee on the 19th of November 2017 as party leader and state-president-in-waiting.Central Committee Meeting Outcome:2017 

22. Dr James Manyika

James Manyika  was the presidential advisor to United States of America president, Barack Obama and Chairman and Director, McKinsey Global Institute, and Senior Partner, San Francisco. Leads research on global economic and technology trends and serves many of the world’s leading high tech companies on growth, innovation, and strategy

23.  Prophet Walter Magaya

Prophet Walter Magaya is among the most celebrated self proclaimed prophets in Zimbabwe and is the founder of Prophetic Healing Deliverance Ministries (P.H.D). Magaya rose to prominence in 2012 after his visit to T. B. Joshua (of SCOAN) who is believed to have anointed him to became a ‘great’ prophet.His popularity increased when he allegedly converted Beverly Sibanda who is affectionately known as Bev a renowned pole dancer in 2014. Magaya has been a force to reckon with, out maneuvering his predecessors Emmanuel Makandiwa and Uebert Angel. He has performed a wide range of miracles.

In August 2016, he was arrested on rape charges and released shortly after on $2,000 bail.

24. Jah Prayzah 

Mukudzeyi Mukombe, who performs under the name Jah Prayzah (born July 4, 1987 in Uzumba, Zimbabwe), is a Zimbabwean contemporary musician and lead member of the band Third Generation. He is popularly referred to by fans and media as “Musoja”, the Shona word for “soldier”, a name he earned mostly because of his signature band uniform of military regalia. The name “Jah Prayzah” comes from his name, “Mukudzei”, which means “Praise Him”.

25. Oliver Mutukudzi



Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi (born 22 September 1952 in HighfieldHarare) is a Zimbabwean musician, businessman, philanthropist, human rights activist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Southern Africa Region. Tuku is considered[who?] Zimbabwe’s most renowned and internationally recognised cultural icon of all time.
