HARARE-Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo rubbished a report published by The Sunday mail on saying ‘report is garbage’.
Moyo made the remarks while responding to a follower on social networking site twitter.ArmyOfOne had asked the Minister why did the Sunday Mail printed an unverified report from an a non-existent firm.Moyo responded saying he is shocked as the alleged research is nothing but garbage.A source who spoke to thezimbabwenewslive said “Moyo’s admission that the research is garbage, obviously explains that the Sunday Mail ran with garbage”
The Sunday mail report which is clearly trying to ape the UK Sunday Times rich list quoted a local firm X Research and Intelligence that lists the country’s Top 50 richest personalities. However an attempt by this publication to establish the existence of this research company yielded no result, suggesting it may not even exist after all.
Information Communication Technology Minister Supa Mandiwanzira, who used to be deputy information minister, was 31st. The minister, a former president of the Affirmative Action Group and ex-CEO of commercial radio station ZiFM on Monday accused the Sunday Mail journalist who reported on the list of “smoking something illegal”.
“How have they calculated my wealth?” Mandiwanzira asked on Twitter. He was one of several Zanu-PF or Zanu-PF-linked officials on the list, ahead of former central bank head Gideon Gono, who was ranked 32nd.
Current Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe chief John Mangudya, who was appointed to his post in March 2014, was 14th.
Moyo, whose name did not appear on the list, said in a tweet: “The list is just awful & some of the people on it who are alleged to be rich are actually scavengers!”
“Maybe one of the people on the ‘rich’ list sponsored both the ‘research’ & its scandalous publication,” he added later.
“Moyo is attacking the Sunday Mail because this is the newspaper he has no control of. It is run by George Charamba and his nephew Mabasa Sasa. Moyo’s sidekick is Edmund Kudzayi who is still banished”,says a source close to Moyo.
