President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s stated plan to fight corruption in Zimbabwe is off to a bumpy start, with questions being raised after one of his key aides(Name supplied) received $200 000 from Sakunda Energy owner Kudakwashe Tagwirei so that he can be appointed Energy Minister, theZimbabwenewslive.com has learnt.
ZANU PF-linked businessman Tagwirei, who through his energy company poured millions into Zimbabwe’s controversial Command agriculture has demanded to be appointed one of president Mnangagwa’s financial advisors.
Lobbying and manoeuvring for positions within post-Mugabe Zanu PF intensified this week ahead of Mnangagwa’s appointment of new cabinet members who will serve until the next polls in 2018.
Mnangagwa is expected to announce new cabinet this week and was yesterday quoted saying those aspiring ministers will be appointed on merit.
Last year, the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) was accused of using its influence to award the multi-million dollar Dema Diesel Power Plant contract to Sakunda Holdings’ Kuda Tagwirei, who partnered Mugabe’s in-law Derrick Chikore.
