CHIRUMANZU: A 19-year-old man broke into a local teacher’s house, stole property worth $ 1,000, ate complainant’s food and relieved himself in the kitchen.
He proceeded to the granary where he stole 90 kilogrammes of maize before going to the kitchen where he ate food left on the table. After feeding himself he went on to relieve himself on the kitchen floor.
Chiurugwi appeared before Gweru magistrate, Shotgame Musaiona facing two counts of unlawful entry and theft and was remanded in custody to November 3 after pleading guilty to the charges.
Prosecutors told the court that on September 25 this year, Chiurugwi went to Maraga’s place of residence where he broke a bedroom window using a stone before gaining entry.
Maraga is a teacher at Mukomberanwa Secondary School.
After gaining entry into the house, Chiurugwi burnt the bedroom door, stole a laptop, Samsung cell phone and chargers.
“He then proceeded to the granary where he removed three layers of bricks and stole 90 kilogrammes of maize,” prosecutors told.
“Chiurugwi then went to Maraga’s kitchen and ate food left on the table and in pots before relieving himself.”
Acting on tip off from villagers, police arrested Chiurugwi the following day and recovered the electric gadgets he had stolen.
