MABVUKU-TAFARA legislator James Maridadi (MDC –T) was yesterday deserted in court by his lawyer in a matter he is accused of stealing a National Railways of Zimbabwe receipt book.
Maridadi told the court he had been trying to get hold of his lawyer yesterday morning, but had failed.
Asked by magistrate Takundwa Mtetwa, who the lawyer was, Maridadi shocked the court when he said he could not recall his attorney’s name.
“Maybe we can stand down the matter for 10 minutes or so, so that you can communicate with your lawyer,” Mtetwa said.
Maridadi said he had been trying his number since morning, but in vain.
“I have been trying to call since 8am up until now, but I cannot get through. So maybe I need to look for another lawyer,” he said.
Mtetwa remanded the matter to December 2 for trial after prosecutor, Patience Chimusaru said the State was ready for trial.
“We are giving you one more chance to get yourself legal representation, since it is your right to be legally represented,” Mtetwa said.
