Danielle’s passion for fashion

by Tafadzwa Zimoyo

She is proud of being born of a British father and a Zimbabwean mother. She studied in London, one of the phenomenal cities in the world and she is in love with Harare. Her name is Danielle Allen, a young entrepreneur who runs one of the successful modelling agencies whose tentacles spread fromLondon to Nigeria.

Although she has written her success story out of the Zimbabwean borders, Danielle has not severed her ties with her Zimbabwean heritage, making a bold claim that she has an undying love for the country.

This is evidenced in her recent declaration and wish that one of her dreams is to design for First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe.

“I have great respect for Amai Mugabe, especially her charity work. This is one of the reasons why I want to design for her. I already have sketches on some of the designs,” she said.

There is no doubt that she can rise to the occasion considering the fact that she has always been business savvy from a very young age.

“I started up a modelling agency with a friend when I was still in London.

“This was one of my first businesses before I went on to open an events company and then an accessories company.

“I finally found my feet when I moved to Nigeria where I went on to run a franchise for The Body Shop being the sole distributor for the brand, which I am still doing to date,” Danielle said.

The enterprising young woman felt the need to put her talent and skills to good use by opening up a spa alongside the brand as there was demand for it.

“Unfortunately, I was forced to close it down after 12 months when I realised that it could not run efficiently without my full attention since most of the time I would not be around.

“This is about the period that I would be travelling back and forth to Zimbabwe. I finally realised it was high time I had to do something here and make a difference in a similar manner that I had done in Lagos, Nigeria,” she explained.

Danielle attended primary and secondary education in Marondera.

“Diggelfold, Godfrey Huggins both primary and Nagle House where I did my secondary school were like the seedbeds of my business and creative talents before I moved London where I attained a degree in hospitality management.

Dani, as they call her affectionately, has always had a passion for designing and decided to open a fashion house in her motherland Zimbabwe although her factory is in Nigeria.

She shows her trust in the motherland and has Africa at heart. Having invested time and money in West Africa she felt it was only right to branch out and launch the line in Southern Africa, Zimbabwe to be precise.

“For now we are waiting on Zimbabwe Fashion International to get back to us with regards to representing the country in Paris at Africa Fashion Reception 2015 where two of us have been nominated. We are just waiting for the final position in terms of funding for the trip.”
