DDF launches free tillage scheme in Mashonaland West province

The District Development Fund (DDF) this Sunday launched the free tillage programme which is meant to benefit vulnerable families in rural and resettlement areas in Mashonaland West Province.

The free tillage programme is implemented by the District Development Fund (DDF) in partnership with the Brazil More food for Africa initiative

The programme was launched at Magogi near Alaska in Makonde district and will benefit 62 thousand families in the province who will each have half a hectare tilled for them for free.

Addressing villagers while launching the programme, Acting Director in the Office of the Minister of State for Mashonaland West Province, Douglas Chiwiro said the programme is meant to cushion vulnerable community members.

’’This programme is meant to benefit vulnerable members of the farming and communal communities who do not have draught power. Each beneficiary will have half a hectare tilled for them and the province will see 62 thousand families benefiting,’’he said.

The DDF has committed a number of tractors for the programme and is rehabilitating some of its idle fleet to ensure the successful implementation of the programme.

65 tractors for the Brazil More Food for Africa programme have been committed towards the free tillage programme in Mashonaland West Province.
