Zimbabwean musician Jah Prayzah was attacked by an angry mob at a funeral of his late bodyguard, Crispen Nyemba, who died in a road traffic accident in Harare’s Belvedere suburb.

In a video circulating on social media platforms, Prayzah is seen running away from the burial site while being pelted with stones and sticks.

The musician, known for his powerful dances on stage, had to run for dear life with mourners in hot pursuit.

Voice recordings of the incident in the video indicate that some relatives and friends of the deceased felt that Prayzah did not do anything towards the burial of his bodyguard.

One of the assailants is overheard as saying, “… he must leave this place. We will stone him … He must leave now because he has a hand in the death of this man.”

Some social media identified the assailants as members of Zanu PF’s Generation 40 faction. This could not be independently confirmed by the ruling Zanu PF party, which uses his music at party functions like the Youth Interface Rallies, a platform for campaigning for 93 year-old President Robert Mugabe.

The musician, who sings East and West African rhumba, was not available for comment. He condition is unknown.-voa
