This comes at a time when the City planned on sending home 3 000 workers on three months’ notice devoid of benefits.

According the state paper  , The Herald in a letter written by his lawyers to Harare Mayor Councillor Bernard Manyenyeni , Dr Mahachi who earned more than $27 000 monthly, wants council to pay him over $100 000 for every year he served, a mansion in Belvedere and two top-of-the-range vehicles.

He joined council in 2007.

Dr Mahachi is on forced leave for reportedly stalling the city’s succession plan and rationalisation of executive salaries, among other issues.

His lawyers Magwaliba and Kwirira say the demands were based on comparative packages paid upon the termination of the contracts of employment of other persons in similar positions.

“The current motor vehicle (Toyota Land Cruiser V8) used by our client shall be transferred to him at no cost. The City of Harare shall procure a new motor vehicle, namely a Jeep Cherokee Overland model and register it to our client’s name at no cost to him.

“Our client was entitled to occupy as part of his employment the property known as No 9A Lanchaster Road, Belvedere. He, however, did not take up occupation of the property and has been occupying his private residence. That property will therefore be transferred to our client with the City of Harare paying capital gains tax for the transfer,” reads part of the letter.

Dr Mahachi’s exit package demands are:

  • Three months salary in lieu of notice.
  • Payment of leave days.
  • Six months payment of medical aid.
  • Payment of accrued leave days
  • Three months salary relocation.
  • Land Cruiser V8.
  • Jeep Cherokee Overland.
  • Six months newspapers
  • Six months funeral cover.
  • Six months salary severance package.
  • Six months fuel.
  • Commercial stand.
  • Belvedere mansion.
  • Pension.
  • Salary arrears.
  • Cellphone handset.
  • Three terms fees for two children.
  • Service of motor vehicle.
  • Payment in two months.
  • Salary rate as at March 2013
  • Taxes to be deducted from package.
  • All payments to be made in his bank account.

Dr Mahachi also wants to be allowed to buy a commercial stand measuring 6 400 square metres,as part of the exit package, which he is currently leasing at the price equivalent to 33 percent of its value.

He also wants council to pay him three months’ salary as relocation allowance, six months worth newspaper subscription allowance, six months contribution to the funeral allowance benefit, six months salary as severance pay and six months’ fuel allocation.

Dr Mahachi also wants his medical aid to be paid for six months from the effective date of termination of the contract as well as procure a new cellphone for him. He also wants the city to pay school fees for three terms for his two children.

“With the foregoing, we state our client’s proposal in order for him to accede to the mutual termination of his contract of employment,” reads the letter.

Dr Mahachi wants council to pay him over a period of two months.

Human Resources and General Purposes committee chairperson Councillor Wellington Chikombo confirmed that the city received a letter from Dr Mahachi with exit package demands.
