Fake medical doctor arrested after attending hundreds at Parirenyatwa

The lives of hundreds of people who sought medical attention at Parirenyatwa’s Group of Hospitals’ Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department were in grave danger after an unspecified number were attendant to by fake medical doctor for close to seven months, the hospital confirmed on Tuesday.

The A&E plays a vital role in caring for the acutely ill and injured patients.

Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in a statement on Wednesday said they discovered that the Accident and Emergency Department had been infiltrated by a fake medical doctor.

The fake doctor who posed as a Physician Registrar for seven months, was flushed out after casualty staff raised alarm over his medical proficiency.

 “On October 2020, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals discovered that the Accident and Emergency Department had been infiltrated by a fake medical doctor who posed as a Physician Registrar,” Parirenyatwa said in a statement.

The matter was discovered after our vigilant casualty staff doubted his medical proficiency and made some inquiries.

“The suspect has been handed over to the police who are now dealing with the matter,” the hospital continued.

“We would like to urge both our staff and members of the public to continuous being vigilant as people with malicious intentions can take advantage of the vastness of our hospital and its complex systems to cause various prejudices. In the meantime the hospital eagerly awaits the outcome from police investigations.”
