The newly formed Association of Hwange Tourism has pledged to promote wildlife conservation and to play a part in the attainment of the envisaged Five billion United States dollar tourism industry by 2025.

The association whose members include Hwange area safari operators, tourism suppliers and global travel buyers has set its sights on promoting sustainable tourism development, capacity building and aggressive marketing of the resource-rich region, which is also home to the popular Hwange National Park.

Association of Hwange Tourism Board Chairperson, Elisabeth Pasalk said the newly formed association is geared to among other things promote wildlife conservation, environmental stewardship as well as increased private and public sector cooperation.

“The environment to us is critical because it is what provides the natural setting, where we have the big five in Hwange National Park. So when you start thinking about what the environmental impact is, from our standpoint it is critical to ensure that all our water sources are not contaminated.”

The association says it also keen to safeguard the popular Hwange National Park which is one of the world’s most unspoiled tourist destinations and home to more than 40 000 African elephants.
