Journalists Arrested In Zimbabwe On World Press Freedom Day Over DJ Templeman Court Report

Zimbabwe police arrested two journalists in Harare on the eve to commemorate World Press Freedom on Wednesday, the Zimbabwe Lawyers For Human Rights (ZLHR) has reported.

ZLHR issued a statement saying two Newsday journalists Desmond Chingarande and Wisdom Mdzungairi, who are at Marlborough Police Station, where ZRP members intend to charge them with contravening the Children’s Act over the publication of a story in the newspaper.

On April 24, a local newspaper Newsday   published that a music promoter and Star FM DJ Simbarashe Maphosa (40)  aka DJ Templeman allegedly kidnapped a 16-year-old girl identified as Chido Faith Nyaguwa and exposed her to drug abuse and liquor for three days in Beitbridge between March 29 and 31 this year.

ZLHR said it has deployed lawyers to offer emergency legal support services to the two.
