A former Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere has been released on bail after handing himself in at a Harare police station and making a brief appearance in court.
Kasukuwere the ex-Zanu PF Political Commissar and a key member of Grace Mugabe led G40 outfit, is facing four counts of criminal abuse of office from his time as Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing as well as the Minister of Youth Development and Economic Empowerment.

A Harare magistrate has granted him $3000 bail and ordered him to report twice per day at Borrowdale Police Station.
Appearing for a bail hearing in court today, Kasukuwere was also asked to surrender his passport and title deeds to a Nyanga resort and not to interfere with witnesses and was represented by Advocate Jonathan Samukange .
Kasukuwere left Zimbabwe on June 25, two days after a bomb exploded at Bulawayo’s White City Stadium during a Zanu PF rally. Mnangagwa later claimed it was an assassination attempt, but a multi-agency investigation has so far failed to crack the case.
Police went to Kasukuwere’s home in early July but found him gone. His extended absence fueled rumours he was fleeing criminal charges.
Kasukuwere left Zimbabwe through an undesignated exit point after the military staged a coup against former President Robert Mugabe on November 15 last year. He returned in May this year, saying he was retired from politics and wanted to concentrate on farming and his businesses.
He was charged with immigration offences but was acquitted after persuading a magistrate that his life was in danger after soldiers opened fire on his home while he was inside with his family and the former Higher Education Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo.
But a month later, he had left again – only returning on Sunday.
