Kissing champion Joseph Chinotimba calls for virginity tests

Buhera South legislator Joseph Chinotimba (Zanu-PF) yesterday called for the re-introduction of virginity tests by apostolic sects to safeguard the girl child from sexual abuse.

Chinotimba said it was strange that civil and human rights organisations called for the ban of the practice yet they were vocal on the need to avoid child marriages.

He was making a contribution to a motion moved by MDC National Assembly member Mrs Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga calling for the country to honour two young women Loveness Mudzuru and Ruvimbo Tsopodzi, who launched a constitutional challenge to outlaw child marriages that was subsequently upheld by the apex court.

“Let us allow churches to continue virginity tests. I have realised that it is those girls that were constantly monitored who would be married quite well,” said Chinotimba.

He castigated parents who sent their girl children to universities without adequate provisions like money for food saying they were exposing them to the vagaries of sexual abuse.

“If you send your girl child to Chinotimba who is staying alone, what do you expect him (the man) to do?” said Chinotimba, drawing laughter.
