TWO commercial buildings belonging to the late Zanu PF politburo member and Zimbabwe national hero Sikhanyiso Duke Ndlovu have been attached by the Deputy Sheriff and are set to be auctioned over a $30 000 debt owed to Bulawayo City Council.
The properties were attached last Friday over a debt dating back to 2009.
One of the properties is at the corner of 14th Avenue and George Silundika Street, while the other is at corner Fife Street and Leopold Takawira Avenue in Bulawayo city centre and both house Ndlovu’s college, Zimbabwe Distance Education College (ZDECO).
The Deputy Sheriff last Friday advertised the auctioning of the two properties belonging to the late politician and Zimbabwe national hero.
Bulawayo City Council lawyer Richard Majwabu yesterday confirmed that the properties had been attached by the council due to a debt the company owed the local authority.
“There is such a case going on between the city council and ZDECO, but I cannot disclose much at the moment unless I have talked to my clients,” he said.
“The debt is said to be backdated from 2009 to date and is about council rates.”
Majwabu said the auctioning of the property had been stalled by negotiations between the two parties after ZDECO officials approached the municipality.
“ZDECO officials have gone to meet council officials to negotiate over the issue,” he said.
“At the moment they are still negotiating.”
ZDECO lawyer Job Sibanda confirmed that his client’s property had been set to go under the hammer, but this was stopped after the two parties opened negotiations.
“Yes, the properties were set to be auctioned, but the two parties are still negotiating,” he said.
“Things are not well for everybody and this is a sign that things are not well.
“Council attached the property and wants to auction it to raise the money owed, but we are still negotiating and I cannot disclose details of the negotiations now.”
Ndlovu died last month following a stroke and was buried at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
