Three witnesses in the trial of two touts based at Simon Vengai Muzenda (formerly Fourth) Street bus terminus, who allegedly indecently assaulted a Harare woman, failed to turn up at court yesterday. This resulted in the trial being postponed to today after Harare magistrate Ms Rekina Dzikiti noted that the witnesses were not formally advised to attend court.

Blessing Chinodakufa (31) and Marvellous Kandemiri (32) are believed to be part of a group that harassed the woman.

The two are facing charges of indecent assault and are denying the charges.

In his defence through his lawyer Mr Nathaniel Chigoro, Kandemiri said he did not participate in harassing the woman though he was present at the rank when she was stripped by his colleagues.

Chinodakufa is not represented.

The woman has since testified in court.

The prosecutor Ms Kudzai Chigwedere, alleged that the two and their accomplices still at large, stripped the woman when she arrived at the rank on December 17 last year.

She was on her way to Ruwa and although she made efforts to cover herself up, the accused continued pulling her dress up and lowering her panties with the intention of removing them.

The court also heard that although the woman managed to temporarily escape after getting into a parked commuter omnibus, the accused persons pulled her out before closing the door.

They pulled her out of another vehicle and she fell to the ground during the tussle.

The woman managed to flee into another commuter omnibus where the driver and the conductor asked her to pay $2 so that they could take her away from the scene.

After she had paid the money, they drove her to safety.

Chinodakufa and Kandemiri were arrested after a leaked video footage went viral on social media networks.
