PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised the ongoing conference of the Global Fund for AIDS, Malaria and TB replenishment in Lyon, France, that Zimbabwe commits itself to contribute US$1 million towards fighting some of the world’s top killer diseases.
Zimbabwe’s commitment to the Global Fund is for the next 3 years.
Conference host, President Emmanuel Macron of France, commended the efforts by Zimbabwe to combat the three diseases and for setting a positive benchmark for Africa.
“Zimbabwe has improved its combat mechanisms in combating HIV, tuberculosis and Malaria,” said President Macron. (Watch the video below).
Every three years, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria holds a conference to replenish its financial resources. At this event, all public and private sector donors announce their financial pledges.
Guests also include the Global Fund’s partners and civil society, both of which are involved in mobilization efforts and programme implementation in their countries.
Donations are used to directly finance programmes to prevent and fight these three major pandemics, which kill approximately 2.5 million people every year.
This year’s conference ran from Wednesday the 9th of October and ends today, Thursday the 10th of October, and is being hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.-zimvoice
