‘Mr Jarzin Man’ burial in Byo

THE late popular disc jockey Lazarus Tembo, who died of cancer in the United Kingdom a fortnight ago, will be buried in Bulawayo on Monday, it has been reported.

Newsday newspaper has reported at the peak of his career on radio, Tembo was known as Mr Jarzin Man or Murume WeMadhora (Dollar Man) after an early morning quiz programme of the same name.

Tembo’s body was expected in the country last night ahead of a church service at Nyaradzo Funeral Parlour in Harare today before it is transported to Bulawayo.

Family spokesperson Milton Tembo confirmed the developments.

“We’re expecting Lazarus’ body this evening (yesterday) from the UK where he died. The church service will be held on Saturday at 2:00pm at Nyaradzo Funeral Parlour along Herbert Chitepo Avenue. The body shall then be transported to Bulawayo on Saturday morning where it shall lie in state at our Cement Siding family home,” he said.

Another popular DJ who worked with Tembo, Eric Knight, described the late as “one of the finest broadcasters the country has ever produced”.

Tembo worked with veteran broadcasters such as Joseph Panganayi Mukaronda, Knight, Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda, Tildah Moyo, Brenda Moyo, Lisbern Nasasara, Dins Patrick Mutume and Sam Sibanda.

He later left ZBC to work for Gramma Records. Tembo is survived by his wife Edna and two children.
