African Union (AU) Chairman President Mugabe joined other world leaders at the G20 Summit in Antalya, Turkey, in expressing dismay and sadness over the multiple terrorist attacks by the militant Islamist group ISIS in the French capital Paris, on Friday.
In his address to the G20 Summit in his capacity as the AU Chairman, President Mugabe registered his sympathy at a callous incident that left 132 people dead, and more than 300 injured, 99 of them critically.
All the G20 members states present and the six invited non-G20 members, added their voices in condemning the senseless killings.
Turning to economic issues, President Mugabe expressed disgust at the treatment of developing countries by rich nations that he said were treated as lower class.
He reminded the leaders that with unconditional and proper support, developing countries had the potential to achieve inclusive growth and development.
He noted that African countries were pressurised by western nations to accept foreign ideologies in exchange for aid.
The AU Chairman reiterated that Africa was now working towards accelerating industrial development in order to realise full benefits from an abundance of underutilised natural resources.
President Mugabe warned developed countries to stop exploiting goods from Africa.
He reminded the leaders that Africa required a controlling share in all ventures that exploited the continent’s non-renewable resources.
