FORMER United States President Barack Obama on Sunday took aim at President Donald Trump, saying his handling of COVID-19 did not inspire confidence, Zim Morning Post reports.

Obama delivered a “withering” attack on the Trump adminstration while addressing a virtual ceremony to mark the 2020 graduation of thousands of US’ high school students.

The former President, who left the Oval Office in 2017, said the current administration did not even have a clue on how to appropriately respond to the coronvirus pandemic.

“More than anything, this pandemic has fully finally tone back the curtain of the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they are doing,” Obama lashed out.

In charectaristic humorous remarks, the 2017 US and first black President of the largest economy in the world brushed aside his successor as a mere pretender to power.

“A lot of them ain’t even pretending to be in charge,” he said.

According to a BBC reportage on Sunday, Obama, who had previously avoided openly criticising the Trump administration, early this month reportedly described the Republican government’s handling of the coronvirus pandemic as a “chaotic disaster”.

But Trump was not about to take the 44th and first black US President’s criticism lying down, accusing his predecessor of “acting improperly” in the investigation that led to the prosecution of US’ former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

Flynn was indicted after he pleaded guilty to charges that he lied to the FBI about contacts with Russia.

But Trump’s presumptive Democratic party rival in November, Joe Biden has hit back, labelling Trump’s accusation against Barack as intended to deflect his and goverment’s horrific management of the COVID-19 crisis in that country.

Meanwhile, Obama has given notice of his intention to campaign alongside Biden to prevent Trump’s bid for the US presidency late this year.
