It was put up for sale by two elderly sisters, whose grandfather had bought the painting in 1916.

It was expected to fetch 50,000 euros at the Weider auction house in Nuremberg, but instead went for 130,000 euros (£103,000).

A private buyer from the Middle East, who wished to remain anonymous, bought the work, the auction house said.

The original bill of sale was included with the painting.Mirror.co.uk
