Peta gets down to business with condoms

Cape Town – In a clever publicity stunt Peta, the animal rights group, has started sending packs of complimentary condoms to notorious trophy hunters to encourage hunters to stop reproducing.

In the wake of the global outrage sparked by Walter Palmer’s trophy hunt in Zimbabwe – during which the American dentist shot Cecil the lion with a high-powered crossbow – notorious trophy hunters, including Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, have received packs of complimentary Huntsman Condoms, camouflage-wrapped prophylactics that boast they are “a piece of safety equipment that makes no compromises on pleasure or performance”.

Bad parents who gun down wildlife and stick animals’ heads on the wall could pass their psychopathological bloodlust on to their kids, said Peta founder Ingrid Newkirk. “If our condoms have prevented even one more wretched hunter from being born, we have saved animal lives.”

According to the website of LionAid, in South Africa, 99 percent of the lions trophy hunted are raised in captivity and then released into a fenced field of various dimensions to be shot by trophy hunters. South African breeders and operators earn more than $10 million (R146m) annually from canned lion hunts, it said.-SUNDAY ARGUS
