Higher and Tertiary Education minister, Jonathan Moyo, has been sucked into a graft case in which a top employee of the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (ZIMDEF) allegedly used his name to defraud the entity.
ZIMDEF seeks to develop skilled manpower and falls under Moyo’s ministry.
The ZIMDEF chief executive officer, Fredrick Mandizvidza (53) is being accused of using Moyo’s name to defraud the parastatal of some $96 000.
He appeared in court on Thursday for allegedly abusing his office and was remanded out of custody on $300 bail to 4 October.
Prosecution is alleging that Mandizvidza in November 2015 connived with another ministry official who is still at large and created a fake document misrepresenting that Moyo had authorised and approved the purchase of 10 heavy duty printers worth $95,800.
Mandizvidza reportedly paid the money to a company, Wisebone Trading, that is involved in agro-chemicals and engineering through a CABS account number despite the company not in information technology
