‘Queen Moroka’ heads for Zim

OP South African actress Sophie Ndaba, known by many Zimbabweans for her unforgettable character, Queen Moroka, in the South African television soap Generations, is coming to Zimbabwe this month to officially launch ‘Summer with Edgars Stores’ through The Edgars Fashion Extravaganza.My-Fashion-Sophie-Ndaba-pp3

Edgars group marketing executive, Rumbie Dzimba said they settled on Queen Moroka because she was a trend-setting icon.

“Edgars bringing in Sophie Ndaba in particular is tied to Sophie being a fashion icon and renowned trendsetter. One of her greatest accolades this year was becoming a judge on Miss South Africa 2015,” she said.

“To top it off, Sophie has roots in Zimbabwe. Every year Edgars celebrates the beginning of summer through a fashion extravaganza promotion, which sees one lucky winner walking away with $10 000 and over $40 000 in assorted prices being shared by customers across the country in the six weeks of the promotion.”

While many fans regard Sophie as a well-known face in show business, her work spans a variety of industries.

Currently, Sophie has a number of business ventures and has been recognised publicly for her work. She launched Sophla Events 15 years ago, which started with catering, then décor design, and now provides a full wedding planning service.

She also runs Sefora Interiors, decorating homes and designing all interiors- from lighting and ceilings, to tiling, kitchens, bathrooms and furniture.  She also runs Mezier Construction with four male partners, and she notes with pride that women are taking over the construction industry.

In an effort to create a platform to give back, Sophie launched “The Sophie Foundation of Hope” Every year on her birthday (June 29) she hosts a group of orphaned children.

In the past three years, the foundation has donated computer labs, wheelchairs, school shoes, uniforms, blankets, and food parcels, as well as involving celebrity friends in spending time with these children.

Having been born in Soweto, and raised in Harare and Bulawayo, part of Sophie’s childhood was spent at Harare Children’s Home, which is why this opportunity to give back to orphans is important to Sophie.

“It has been a heart-warming, rewarding, awesome feeling that God granted me,” Sophie said.

Dzimba said Sophie was expected to jet into the country on September 16 and will have an opportunity to interact with her fans at Edgars stores in Harare, Gweru and Bulawayo for the three days in which she will be in the country.

“This event marks an exciting opportunity for local fans to interact with Sophie, to take selfies, get autographs and specially-branded Sophie merchandise. We would like to extend our gratitude to our partners who have come in to make this event possible: Premier Auto- who will be driving Sophie in style in Jaguar cars, South African Airways- who will fly her in, and African Sun- who are providing her accommodation. We value this visit by Sophie and encourage everyone to come out to experience a moment of style with Sophie,” she said.
