Known as PRIVY, the bar was initially scheduled to open its doors next to the city wall in Lower Bridge Street just before Christmas in 2017   but twice failed to kick off under unclear circumstances.

However, sources revealed to this publication that the establishment had failed to meet Canterbury City council’s health and safety regulations.

Last year owner Angela Jane Long, who also runs the Loft Bar in St Margaret’s Street, told KentOnline newspaper that her new venture is promising “true decadence” with the emphasis on style and glamour and customers made to feel like “A-listers”

Although no exact date has been revealed, the opening looks imminent after the owners  Privy Bar Ltd put up job listings looking for staff.

“Privy, a new, exciting and exclusive bar is opening in the heart of Canterbury and we are looking for motivated, talented Bartending staff”, the advert says.

Once open, the venue will provide a daytime bolt-hole and open from 11 am to serve coffee and pastries. But in the evenings it will transform into a chic nightspot, serving fine wines, beers and cocktails until 3 am.

Efforts to get a comment from Ms Long were unsuccessful at the time of publishing.
