FORMER Zanu PF spokesperson and Zimbabwe People First leader Rugare Gumbo has been dragged to the courts on allegations double selling a combine harvester from his Mvuma farm.

Gumbo arrived at the Harare Magistrates’ Court in the company of police officer from Malborough Police Station facing charges of theft of trust property. The former cabinet minister allegedly sold a combine harvester (Case Combine 2388 model) to Christopher Jamu for $27 000 before reselling the same property to another buyer from Chinhoyi for $30 000.

However, Gumbo did not enter the courtroom after the docket was returned to the police station by regional prosecutor Michael Reza for further management. Jamu claims that he bought the combine harvester sometime in February this year but did not collect it from Gumbo’s Mvuma Farm since it had burst tyres. After several months trying to get the property, Juma said he discovered that it had been sold to another buyer from Mvuma for $30 000.

Gumbo is a beneficiary of the Brazil equipment to Zimbabwe under the $98 million 15-year loan facility provided to support small-scale farmers in 2015.

“He is effectively selling farm mechanisation equipment”, said a source who spoke to this publication.
