The Rusike Brothers, Tawanda, Addie, Phillip as well as the twins Kelly and Collin are expected to reunite this Easter when they perform at a special gig scheduled for the newly opened ZimCafe International, down in Victoria Falls.
The gig to be held during the Easter holidays will see the brothers reunite on stage taking fans down the memory lane from their 1980s classics.
The hugely talented group rarely performs together due to work commitments although top bassist Kelly plays as part of the super group Jazz Invitation.
The band was known for its hippy dressing and jiveable music with classics like “Dance on Saturday Night “and their rendition of the grossly popular “Cecilia”.
At a time when most local acts sang in vernacular, the Rusike Brothers added a cosmopolitan touch with their English lyrics and superb voices that could surely have landed them a Motown contract if the stars had been in perfect alliance.
The Easter gig is one not to be missed as ZimCafe International seeks to add the glow to the resort town through hosting a number of renowned artistes and DJs.
The Easter line up starts with the Acoustic Friday on April 3 then followed by Afro Party on Saturday and rounding off with Jazz Sunday on April 5.
“We are delighted to bring popular group Rusike Brothers to Victoria Falls. Music lovers should look forward to an exciting Easter as the brothers are all geared up to rock the stage.
“The ZimCafe International brand is taking entertainment to another level in the resort town and holiday makers should make a date with us. We are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” Isaac Neshama aka F&B Guru who is the director said.
Besides live performances by Rusike Brothers, DJ Buzie who is popular for Kizomba music will be on the decks to ensure that revellers have a whale of a time.
The Rusike Brothers are also the pioneers who popularised disco music in the 1980s.
They rose to national stardom with the hit ‘Saturday Night’ which became a number one hit.
However the group is best known for the famous “Sadza” commercial, which showed on the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation Television in the early 1980s.
The bothers were one of the first Zimbabwean musicians to get endorsements that saw them feature in advertisements.
They featured in the “Merlin Towels” advet in 1986 and the popular “Ngwerewere” (1991).
The group wrote their own piece of history by being one of the first to perform outside the country.
They embarked on a tour of the United Kingdom in 1992 playing in popular clubs and halls.
They also worked with European record labels such as Red Bus Studios.
