Chicken Inn are threatening to ask FIFA to suspend the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League over alleged match-officiating irregularities.

This comes in the wake of what the club feels was questionable refereeing by Thomas Massa in the 0-1 defeat to FC Platinum, Massa having turned down two penalty appeals, the second of which he over-ruled his assistant.

The club are now threatening to take serious action.

“As a football club, we reserve the right to inform Fifa through your office to have the league suspended until proper structures on referees are put in place with the aid of Fifa and resume training of the referees,” read part of club secretary Tawenga Hara’s letter to Zifa vice-president Omega Sibanda, according to the Chronicle.

As things stand, all match official appointments are made by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) secretariat, something several clubs are said to be unhappy about.

According to a referee spoken to by the same publication, a receptionist from the PSL offices phones and informs them of their duties.

Sibanda meanwhile has confirmed that he is aware of the issue, but says he is waiting on paperwork before taking any further action.

“I am also waiting for the referees’ committee chairman Peter Dube’s report, but the incident being mentioned by Chicken Inn happened when I was there. I witnessed it, but I need an official document from the referees’ committee,” said Sibanda.
