A video of Zanu-PF supporters attacking an opposition activist in Zimbabwe is being shared on social media.
In the video two men and a woman armed with sjamboks force the unidentified activist to kneel down and worship a picture of First Lady Grace Mugabe emblazoned on a yellow Hammer 2 Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). The activist is then forced to wear a t-shirt with Grace Mugabe’s face.
Speaking in ChiShona‚ one of the attackers‚ political commissar of the Zanu-PF-aligned Children of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association‚ Munyaradzi Shoko‚ in the video says: “We don’t play with people who rebel against us. We will burn you!”
With Zimbabwe expected to go to the polls in the next twelve months on a date yet to be announced‚ political parties are now on the campaign trail. Fears of political violence have been raised by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Carol O’Connel‚ who was in Zimbabwe a fortnight ago.
