Mercy Kamanura, 24, was dragged to the magistrate’s court for picking the trendy outfit from Edgars, Cnr First Street and Nkwame Nkrumah.

She was not asked to plead when she appeared before magistrate Tilda Mutambanashe Thursday.

Kamanura was remanded to September 15 on $30 bail.

Prosecutor Richard Makondo told court that, a few days ago, Kamanura went to the store and pretended she wanted to buy clothes.

She then took three items to the fitting room saying she wanted to try them on.

When Kamanura came out of the fitting room she handed over only two items to shop attendants.

The offence was discovered when she was about to get out of the shop after the security guard searched her bag.

The guard found a jumpsuit similar to the type the shop was selling but without evidence of payment.

He went to the fitting room where he found a price tag of the same jumpsuit.

Kamanura then denied stealing the jumpsuit, saying she had bought the one in her handbag from another retailer.

She, however, failed to prove her case and the matter was reported.

The stolen jumpsuit was valued at $40.

Kamanura won the Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe title in July this year and received $2,000 and three months’ supply of Black Opal skincare and cosmetic products.
