In new twist to the Grace Mugaabe saga, the Police have now confirmed that Zimbabwe’s first lady is still in South Africa.
They say she is now pinning her hopes on using diplomatic immunity to avoid being arrested, after allegedly assaulting a young 20-year-old South African woman in Johannesburg on Sunday.
The Zimbabwean government has already dispatched a diplomatic note to Pretoria.
Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police also discussed the matter.
Acting National Commissioner Lesetja Mothiba appeared before the committee on Wednesday.
“Her lawyers said that they were coming to plead that she gets diplomatic immunity. We were supported by the National Deputy of
Public Prosecutions Advocate Shaun Abrahams and his Provincial Head, and our position was that she must go to court.”
