Ellen Chiweshe, 48, was promoted from group captain to Air Commodore, the third highest rank in Zimbabwe’s air force. She become the highest ranking female in AFZ.

“It was very tough as the military is dominated by male officers and it is through hard work. I am very happy that the system has recognised me,” she said at a recent rank ceremony at the air force’s Harare headquarters.

Air Marshal Perence Shiri, who presided over the ceremony, said the “sky is the limit for females in the air force”.

Air Commodore Chiweshe joined the AFZ in 1988 and was promoted to the rank of Group Captain and then in 2009 was appointed director of finance.

Ellen attained a Distinction in her DIPLOMA IN INTERNATIONAL STUDIES  at a Kenyan University in November 2015.
