Zimbabwe Court Agrees Mnangagwa Has Failed as Bindura Man is Freed

A Bindura man who was arrested for saying President Emmerson Mnangagwa had failed to resolve the country’s political and economic challenges has been acquitted.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) says in a statement that its lawyers represented the man who was facing charges of disorderly conduct.

“In Bindura, Saymore Mashorokoto represented by the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights who had been on trial for disorderly conduct after he allegedly told fellow resident that President Mnangagwa had dismally failed to revive Zimbabwe’s political and economic fortunes, has been acquitted by Magistrate Langton Ndokera,” said the legal body.

President Mnangagwa’s administration has been accused of clamping down on citizens who criticize him over his policies, the same level of accusations that haunted the government of the late former President Robert Mugabe.

With yearly inflation hovering above 300% as of August according to the International Monetary Fund, Zimbabwe faces a gripping economic crises with civil strife and protests the order of the day.
