Zimbabwe Covid-19 cases rise to 203

ZIMBABWE’S Covid-19 infections increased to 203 Monday after 26 new positive tests, the Ministry of Health and Child care has confirmed.

In its latest update, the ministry said the new cases included one local contact of a known confirmed case as well as 22 returnees from South Africa and three from Botswana.

Meanwhile, the government has warned Zimbabweans returning home from abroad against absconding from quarantine centres as the number of escapees increased to 149.

“The importance of the risk posed by border jumpers and quarantine absconders cannot be overstated,” said information minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa Monday evening.

“Going forward, persons who abscond from quarantine centres will have their details published so that communities are aware of the potential risks in their midst.”

The minister said government was also concerned about the increase in both human and vehicular traffic in central business districts across the country.

“Government wishes to remind the nation that we are still under lockdown. We need to decongest our public places by only going out when it is absolutely necessary,” she said.
