Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister Moyo Admitted To South African Hospital After Sacking Nearly 300 Doctors Back Home

Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Sibusiso Moyo has been admitted to a South African Hospital for a “scheduled operation”.

The development was confirmed by George Charamba, the spokesman for the presidency, who posted on Twitter saying:

This is a scheduled operation. I can’t vouch that he is now admitted. But I am aware this was a pending event, after Mauritius.

Moyo’s flight to South Africa comes as the government is retrenching doctors who have been on industrial action since the 3rd of September this year over unsustainable salaries and poor working conditions.

As a result of the industrial action, the health sector that was already in the red as hospitals had inadequate medicines and equipment, is now grounded as there are insufficient health caregivers to attend to patients.

Meanwhile, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is still in China where he has been for the past four months been receiving medical attention. He had previously spent six months getting treatment from India before being airlifted to South Africa when his health rapidly deteriorated.
