1.7mil Zimbabwe households to benefit from Presidential Inputs Scheme

An estimated 1.7 million households countrywide are set to benefit from the Presidential Inputs Scheme as the government moves in to ensure a productive agricultural season.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s visit to Mahusekwa in Mashonaland East Province this Saturday did not only see him commissioning the district hospital following the completion of phase two of the construction work as he also handed over agricultural inputs to chiefs and community members.

This comes amid revelations that some people will benefit from the presidential scheme, while others will benefit from the command agriculture programme.

“This year we have added the inputs that we distribute under the Presidential Inputs Scheme. When we started Command Agriculture, all the inputs were free and a beneficiary was expected to pay back after harvesting. Now some people abused the facility and this year we have given the scheme to selected banks to manage so I encourage you all to be productive in the fields,” President Mnangangwa said.

President Mnangagwa told the gathering that the land reform programme is irreversible, adding that Zimbabweans now need to be productive on their land.

“We must be productive on the land so that we don’t keep begging from other countries. We must utilise our land. Let’s plant crops that are suitable in our regions,” he urged the gathering.

For his commitment to uplifting the livelihoods of the country’s citizens, President Mnangagwa received cattle from Mashonaland East province as a token of appreciation for his leadership.-zbc
