9 murders committed by Zimbabweans abroad that will shock you

IN THIS true crime piece , we look at the  murders committed by Zimbabweans abroad – and what drives them to kill.

  1. Basil Chawafambira, London

    On Wednesday 2 March  20011 ,at the Old Bailey a man who killed his 21-year old partner in front of their six month old baby was convicted of her murder.

    36 year-old Basil Chawafambira killed Czarina Baker in their flat on Hemans Street, Stockwell in London on Monday 14 June 2010.

    The court heard how he strangled the young mother with the straps of a nappy bag whilst forcing her head into a bowl full of water used to cool the baby’s bottle.

    During the week-long trial the jury also heard the couple who had been in a relationship for some five years, had argued about Chawafambira’s failure to help with domestic chores. They also heard that Chawafambira had previously been violent towards Czarina.

    After he killed Czarina, Chawafambira attempted to take his own life by taking an overdose of prescription pills but this failed and they just made him sleep.

    Three days after the murder, on Thursday 17 June Chawafambira walked into Brixton police station and confessed to killing Czarina.

    Officers went to the couple’s flat where they found the young woman’s body wrapped in a sleeping bag under a quilt.

    Chawafambira was arrested and charged with Czarina’s murder.

    Judge jailed him for life and ordered him to serve no less than 18 years’ imprisonment.

    At Southwark Crown Court, Gibson Mazikana, 41, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 27 years, for the murder of Emily Munemo on 19 August 2015.

    Ms Munemo was found with stab wounds at a property in Collingwood Road, Hillingdon, on 30 January.

    Mazikana was due to appear in court to be sentenced for assault on the same day he murdered his estranged wife.

    On the day of the attack, Mazikana was due to be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court for assaulting a police officer who had attended the family home following a domestic incident, the Met Police said.

     

  3. Jasper Jason Taruvinga Dube, Dublin Ireland

    The prime suspect in the case of a murdered woman, Rudo Mawere found in a travel bag took his own life in a wooded area in Kent.

     English police informed gardaí the suspect in the murder of Malawian student Rudo Mawere had taken his own life and ruled out foul play.

    The body of Jasper Taruvinga Dube was found at Crutches Lane, Higham, just after 9am.

    Mr Taruvinga was the boyfriend of Ms Mawere, 26, whose body was found in a holdall dumped on a footpath at St David’s Terrace in Dublin 7 on Sunday morning.

    A flat on nearby Aughrim St where Mr Taruvinga was living was sealed off on Monday, when the suspect fled the country.

    Dubbed Cannibal killer,Andrew ripped out a man’s heart and ate it to ‘show he was not gay’ was sentenced to 18 years behind bars.

    A murderer who ate his victim’s heart with a knife and fork in a bizarre bid ‘to prove he wasn’t gay’ has been jailed for 18 years in South Africa.

    Zimbabwean Andrew Chimboza pleaded guilty to stabbing 62-year-old Mbuyiselo Manona to death at the home of Manona’s lover in Cape Town’s Gugulethu township in June last year.

  5. Patrick Chareka, Canadachareka

    In 2013, a Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge handed down a sentence of life in prison Tuesday to Zimbabwean man who beat his wife to death with a hammer in front of at least two of their children. Patrick Chareka pleaded guilty in September to second-degree murder.His wife, Ottilia Chareka, was found in the couple’s Antigonish home after the police received a 911 call for a disturbance. She was taken to hospital but later died. She was a professor in the education department of St. FX.

    Police said Chareka beat his wife with a hammer. Prosecutors said Chareka agreed to plead guilty in part so that his children wouldn’t have to testify in the trial. Four of the couple’s five children were home the night of the murder.

  6.   Mthulisi Ndlovu, USA

    Ndlovu of Bonney Lake pleaded guilty on Aug. 10, 2012 to the second-degree murder of his girlfriend Mary Mushapaidzi.

    Ndlovu killed his former wife following a fight over dishes on Oct. 9. He attempted to burn her body in a barrel in the garage at the Inlet Island home the couple shared.

    Dubbed US dirty dishes killer, he was  jailed 20 years .

  7. Dexter Landsberg, St Albans UK
    Madina Landsberg, 31, was murdered by her abusive husband Dexter Landsberg, 34, in June this year, while he was on bail for attacking herMadina Landsberg, 31, had reported her 34-year-old husband Dexter to Hertfordshire police several times in the months before she died.
    In April, Landsberg was arrested for beating up his wife and smashing her mobile phone in a violent rage. He had also been cautioned in 2012 for assaulting his wife.

    But, after being charged with common assault and criminal damage, Landsberg was released on bail.
    Just weeks later, Mrs Landsberg was found beaten to death at the couple’s home in Hatfield.
    The case was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, the police watchdog, which advised the force to carry out an investigation into its contact with the victim.

  8.  Josphat Mutekedza, UK

    Zimbabwean born male who was accused of having stabbed Miriam Nyazema after an altercation in the United Kingdom. He is also a former member of the British army.

    Mutekedza was charged with murder and possession of firearms following the fatal stabbing of Miriam Nyazema. The other person who had been arrested over the matter was released without charge but Mutekedza was charged and was set to appear in court on July 30 in Manchester.

  9.  Tapiwa Douglas Furusateefuzz
    A 37-YEAR-OLD Zimbabwean man was arrested and recently remanded till May 13  in the United Kingdom on allegations of fatally stabbing a woman in unclear circumstances .

    According to media the man, known in social circles as Tee Fuz, was arrested on suspicion of murder after a Zimbabwean woman, Leigh-Anne Zanelle Mahachi, was stabbed to death in a Sheffield home.
