Amapiano Queen Sha-Sha nominated for BET awards

South African-based musician, Charmaine Mapimbiro, affectionately known as Shasha in the music circles, has become the first Zimbabwean to be nominated for a BET award.

The BET Awards are an American awards show established by Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate African Americans and other American minorities in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment.

Zimbabwe’s Shasha has been nominated for this year’s BET Awards Viewer’s Choice Best New International Act and is expected to fight it out against Nigeria’s Rema, Celeste, and Young T & Bugsey of the United Kingdom as well as France’s duo of Hatik and Stacy.

Speaking to ZBC News from her Johannesburg base, Shasha saluted her fans for the nomination, expressing optimism that Zimbabwe will land the award.

“I would like to thank you for supporting me, you have shown much support, lets vote and bring the award to Zimbabwe. It will be amazing to celebrate together. You can vote me on my social media platforms.”

Meanwhile, the Amapiano Queen also encouraged Zimbabweans to stay safe from the COVID-19 pandemic by adhering to calls for them to stay home and practice social distancing.

“At the moment, we are at home, just to remind you, stay home, sanitize, and be safe corona is real.”

In South Africa, she has teamed up with various musicians notably DJ Maphorisa and Samthing Soweto to produce hit songs such as Tender love, Something for you, Abondaba, Mutare, Emazulwini, among other hits.

Some of the artists nominated for this year’s BET awards are Drake with six nominations, Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Ricch, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, among others.

The 2020 BET awards ceremony will be held on the 29th of this month.
