Ammara set to release a single collaborated on with Hugh Masekela

HARARE – Rising songbird Ammara Brown has collaborated with South African music legend Hugh “Bra Hugh” Masekela on a track titled Next Lifetime that will be released next month.

The daughter of the late musician Andy Brown confirmed the collaboration in an interview with the Daily News, adding that the single will be part of her forthcoming album Ammartia.

“In March, I will be releasing a single I collaborated on with Hugh Masekela.

“The track Next Lifetime will be on my album that will go on the market in April,” she said.

Ammara, who recently participated in South African artiste Steve Dyer’s musical titled Colour me Human, added that the duet with Bra Hugh is a love song.

“Next Lifetime is about feeling an inexplicable magnetism towards someone but you are not able to be with them,” said Ammara.

The pending single, which is Ammara’s 13th to date, follows tracks like Mukoko, Night of the Queen, More Sugar Daddy, Kure Kure (featuring Jah Prayzah), Mafaro (Featuring the late Andy Brown), Hotta (Featuring Naked DJ), I Release You, Khameel’s kick, Ndichakusuwa, Hustlers Yoga (featuring Tehn Diamond), Crucify Me and Havarare.

Last year, the internationally-acclaimed South African jazz guru praised Ammara after she had delivered an inspired performance at Montclair Resort and Casino in Nyanga.

Masekela told local journalists then that Ammara has what it takes to break onto the international market.

“Ammara has talent and she will go places if she maintains the standards. She has the energy and unique stage presence.

“Her choreography is outstanding and I am happy Zimbabwe is producing musicians that can penetrate the international market,” Masekela said then.

Masekela, who collaborated with Zimbabwean music legend Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi on the hit Tapera, was recently in Zimbabwe for more duets with Tuku and to feature on an album by a local all-female band called Shai Shai made up of Rumbidzai Tavaziwa, Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, Benita Tarupiwa and Joyce Warikandwa.
