PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe is reportedly set to spend three weeks in the Far East where he is expected to visit several countries for his “frequent medical check-ups”.
According to NewsDay Mugabe leaves the country this week, and his trip will end with a state visit to Japan.
The trip comes barely a month after the nonagenarian returned from Singapore where he went for medical a check-up and to pick up his wife, who was recovering from surgery.
Mugabe and his family spent his annual leave in the region in December and January.
The report quoted government officials as saying Mugabe would make a stopover in Singapore for a medical check-up before proceeding to Japan.
Mugabe was in the news recently, urging Zimbabweans to seek healthcare locally.
The veteran leader said this while commissioning new medical equipment worth about $100m at Harare Central Hospital.
“If yesterday we were getting fewer patients from outside, their numbers will increase in the future and even from South Africa itself where our people rush to, for what they believe is better treatment,” Mugabe was quoted as saying.
Mugabe prefers to fly to the Far East for his healthcare, even for routine procedures such as an eye check-up, the report said.
This development comes a month after Mugabe fell as he walked down the steps.NEWS24
