British GP Dr Nyatsuro who seized a farm in Zimbabwe could be kicked out of UK

The British government is considering legal options with regard to Nottingham GP, Dr Sylvester Nyatsuro in a move that could see him kicked out of UK, North Oxfordshire MP Victoria Prentis has said.

Activists from the Zimbabwe Vigil in London have since last year been calling  on the British government to expel Dr Sylvester Nyatsuro, a Zimbabwe-born black British doctor who  seized a farm in Zimbabwe , from a White farmer Phillip Rankin after claiming Robert Mugabe’s government had granted him ownership of the property.

Prentis was responding to a question by an activist  Adam Shattock, about land rights in Zimbabwe.See letter below:

Dear Adam,

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about land rights in Zimbabwe, and for sharing your own personal experience with me. I am sorry for the delay in coming back to you.

I have serious concerns about President Mugabe’s land reform programme, and the devastating impact it continues to have on farmers, their families and workers. I know that the British Government has been following the Rankin farm seizure closely. It believes the seizure of Mr Rankin’s farm was illegal under the Zimbabwean Constitution, which states that no person may be evicted from their home without an order of court made after consideration of the relevant circumstances. These concerns have been made clear to the Zimbabwean Government.

I have made some enquiries and I also understand that the British Government is actively considering its legal options with regard to Dr Nyatsuro. I am assured that Ministers will continue to urge the Government of Zimbabwe to uphold the rule of law, respect property rights and bring perpetrators of violence and aggression to justice.

I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Best wishes,

Victoria
