Cde Chinx makes rare performance

HARARE – Veteran musician Dickson “Cde Chinx” Chingaira, who has been unwell for some time, made a rare appearance at the City Sports Bar where he made a brief performance.

Cde Chinx performed during the City Sports Bar’s Monday Jam Session — a weekly event which brings together veteran guitarists, vocalists and drummers from different bands to combine forces and improvise songs.

The veteran musician performed just two of his hits, Zvikomborero and Chikopokopo, before an appreciative and packed City Sports Bar. Not surprisingly, the former liberation war combatant omitted former Vice President Joice Mujuru’s name while singing the song Chikopokopo.

Mujuru was expelled by Zanu PF in December 2014.

The beret-clad Cde Chinx was moved by the standing ovation he received from the crowd.

“I am glad that people are still in love with my music. I have been pleasantly surprised by the response. This is very encouraging. I will always take part in this event whenever I can because my health has greatly improved,” he said

The Monday night event, which attracted a big crowd, featured several musicians, including Somandla “Mafia” Ndebele, who only performed one song Hupenyu Hwangu backed by the Talking Guitars.

Other notable performers were Tendai Chimombe, daughter of the late legendary artiste James Chimombe, Faheem Somanje, son of the late music star Daiton and Lovemore Majaivana’s son, Derick.

There were also cameo performances by artistes such as Nyasha Mugari, Kireni Zulu and Kessiah Magosha.
