Chamisa cheers up comedian Gringo after he undergoes emergency op

HARARE – MDC leader Nelson Chamisa on Thursday visited recovering comedian Gringo after he underwent an operation at a Harare hospital.

Gringo, real name Lazarus Boora, captivated audiences as the star of Enock Chihombori’s drama series, ‘Gringo’, which first appeared on ZBC screens in 1997.

But the star has fallen on hard times and well-wishers, including the former Big Brother star Pokello Nare, came together to pay for his Z$18,000 appendix operation at the CITI Med Hospital in Chitungwiza.

Chamisa sent a tweet after meeting Gringo, revealing that he prayed for the comedy genius who turns 46 on October 18.

“Kudos to the CITI Med hospital medical staff for the job well done. In other countries, such talent is highly-rewarding. Will get there. Thanks to all who helped in medical fees,” Chamisa tweeted, making a veiled reference to the ongoing strike by doctors who say their salaries have been wiped out by hyperinflation.

Doctors said the surgery on Gringo’s ruptured appendix had been successful, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
